8 signs you’re feeling stuck and what to do about it

Feeling stuck is a sensation we’ve all experienced at some point. It’s that unsettling feeling of going round in circles, like you’re not making any progress in life.

As Jeanette Brown, the founder of Reset Your Life Compass, I’ve seen this feeling manifest time and again in different people.

Now, the tricky part about feeling stuck is recognizing it for what it is. And that’s where this article comes in.

I’ve put together 8 signs that you might be feeling stuck and some practical tips on what to do about it. Because, believe it or not, you have the power to navigate your way out of this rut.

Let’s dive in, shall we?

1) You’re resistant to change

One of the most common signs that you’re feeling stuck is a resistance to change.

Change is inevitable, it’s part of life. But when you’re feeling stuck, you might find yourself clinging to the familiar, even if it’s not serving you well.

It’s like you’re standing at the edge of a cliff, knowing you need to jump to reach the other side, but you just can’t bring yourself to do it.

But here’s the thing: Change can be scary, but it can also be incredibly liberating.

Over the years, I’ve seen countless people transform their lives once they’ve embraced change. They’ve navigated their way out of feeling stuck and into a life that is more fulfilling and satisfying.

So if you find yourself resisting change, take a step back. Ask yourself why you’re holding on so tightly. And then consider what could happen if you loosened your grip and took that leap.

2) You’re unclear about your values

Another sign that you’re feeling stuck is when you can’t clearly articulate your core values.

Your values are the guiding principles of your life. They’re the things that drive you, that make you feel alive.

When you’re clear about your values, decision-making becomes easier. After all, as Roy E. Disney once said, “When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier.”

In my own journey, I’ve found that taking time to define my values has been one of the most transformative exercises I’ve undertaken.

That’s why I created the Defining Your Values Exercise. It’s a tool designed to help you explore what’s really important to you, what lights you up.

So if you’re feeling stuck, take some time to reflect on your values. You may find that the path forward becomes much clearer.

3) You’re lacking meaningful goals

Here’s the raw truth: If you don’t have goals that truly matter to you, you’re setting yourself up to feel stuck.

Goals give us a sense of purpose, a direction to move in. Without them, we can easily find ourselves wandering aimlessly, feeling lost and unfulfilled.

But not all goals are created equal. It’s not about setting just any goal. It’s about setting meaningful goals – goals that align with your values, goals that excite you, goals that challenge you.

So ask yourself, what are your current goals? Are they truly meaningful to you? Or are they just something you think you should be aiming for?

If it’s the latter, it might be time to reassess. Because when your goals are meaningful, they become a powerful tool to help you move forward and avoid feeling stuck.

4) You’re not steering your life

Here’s another harsh reality: If you’re not actively steering your life, you’re likely to end up feeling stuck.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of letting life happen to us, rather than proactively shaping it. We get caught up in the daily grind, responding to what comes our way instead of deciding where we want to go.

But remember, you are the captain of your ship. It’s up to you to set the course and steer towards it.

If you’re feeling stuck, ask yourself: Am I really in control of my life? Or am I just going with the flow, letting external factors dictate my direction?

Taking back the wheel is not always easy, but it’s a crucial step in breaking free from that feeling of being stuck. It’s about making conscious choices about where you want to go and then taking steps each day to get there.

5) You’re not journaling your thoughts and feelings

Journaling is a powerful tool that can help you gain clarity, process emotions, and set goals. Yet, many of us neglect to make it a part of our daily routine.

If you’re not journaling, you might be missing out on valuable insights about what’s working in your life and what’s not. It’s like trying to navigate without a compass.

That’s why I recommend journaling as part of my course, Reset Your Life Compass. It’s an effective way to bring to light the things that might be holding you back and to chart a course towards a more fulfilling life.

So if you’re feeling stuck, give journaling a try. It won’t provide all the answers, but it can certainly help illuminate the path forward.

6) Your habits are not serving you

Habits are powerful. They shape our daily lives, our health, and ultimately, our happiness. But not all habits are beneficial. Some can leave us feeling stuck and unsatisfied.

If you’re feeling stuck, take a good, hard look at your habits. Are they helping you move forward? Or are they holding you back?

Changing habits is challenging, but it’s not impossible. The key is to replace unhelpful habits with ones that align with the life you want to live.

So start small. Choose one habit that’s not serving you and commit to change it. Remember, it’s not about perfection but progress. Each small step you take is a step in the right direction towards a better life.

7) You’re lacking a sense of purpose

Now, this is a tough one: If you’re feeling stuck, it might be because you’re lacking a sense of purpose.

Purpose is what gives our lives meaning. It’s the reason we get up in the morning, the driving force behind our actions. As the famous psychologist Carl Jung once said, “The least of things with a meaning is worth more in life than the greatest of things without it.”

Without a sense of purpose, we can easily find ourselves feeling lost and stuck.

But here’s the good news: Finding your purpose is not something that happens overnight. It’s a journey, and there are ways to make it easier.

I’ve shared some tips on how to find your purpose in life in this video: Tips for finding your purpose in life. Check it out, it might just provide the spark you need to get unstuck.

8) You’re not living authentically

Sometimes, feeling stuck can be a result of not living authentically.

We often mold ourselves to fit into societal norms or others’ expectations, suppressing our true selves in the process. But this can leave us feeling disconnected and unfulfilled – stuck.

Living authentically means being true to who you are, embracing your unique traits, values, and passions. It’s about letting your true self shine, regardless of what others might think.

So if you’re feeling stuck, ask yourself: Am I living my life authentically? Or am I just playing a role that doesn’t align with who I truly am?

Breaking free from this mold can be scary, but it can also be incredibly liberating. It might just be the key to getting unstuck and living a more fulfilling life.

Feeling stuck can be a challenging and frustrating experience, but recognizing the signs and making conscious changes can help you navigate your way out of it.

Remember, it’s okay to ask for help. I’ve crafted a course designed to assist individuals like you, who might be feeling stuck. My course, Reset Your Life Compass, provides practical tools and exercises that can guide you towards a more fulfilling life.

Don’t let the feeling of being stuck define you. You have the power to make changes and steer your life in the direction you want. It all starts with recognizing the signs and taking that first step towards change. Good luck on your journey.
